About Samuel Dougal

Designer and bespoke tailor Samuel Dougal’s meteoric rise has been propelled by A-listers including Rihanna and Paloma Faith donning his designs. Mentored by business leader and design guru, Kelly Hoppen MBE, Dougal is headed into the spotlight as one to watch in the fashion industry.

The designer’s eponymous label is now London-based, but Dougal hails from Cornwall, a county whose raw drama and simultaneous simplicity have inspired his debut Ready-to-Wear collection launching at LFW in February 2016. At just 26, the designer has already gained invaluable expertise from the greats under whom he trained – Alexander McQueen and Philip Treacy.

His pioneering couture work puts the woman, the wearer, at the centre of every creation and his extraordinary handmade pieces determinedly belie the complexity of their craftsmanship. Blending an incredible versatility, uninhibited creativity and rare intuition, Samuel Dougal gowns convey a striking elegance, a quietly captivating raw drama.

His diverse sources of inspiration, spanning the nineteenth century to the present day, have given rise to his breathtaking debut collection; flattering shapes that combine lavish nostalgia and timeless fabrics with progressive style for contemporary looks that stun.

The debut autumn/winter ready-to-wear collection puts Dougal’s pioneering aesthetic front and centre; ultra tailored and elegantly refined cuts, crafted from the highest quality British fabrics, comprise the looks.

Inspired by the simplistic aesthetic produced by the art colony that came out of St.Ives in the early 20th century; in particular Barbara Hepworth who became the muse for the Autumn/Winter 16/17 collection for her free thinking individuality, intense passion for her craft and her independent spirit.

Among the carefully sourced fabrics: Harris Tweed from the Outer Hebrides, silk from Suffolk and pure alpaca from Somerset. A journey from Cornwall to Scotland inspires the collection’s autumnal colour palette. Fawn hues of Cornish sands feature, as do the khaki shades of the grassy South West, steely north of England greys and rich reds from the depths of Scotland.

Each piece is cut and styled to achieve a silhouette that suits every woman. Dougal maintains his signature sleek and sophisticated aesthetic but adds contemporary detailing like raglan sleeves in tweed, to create an effortless and thoroughly modern look.

Beautifully classic mohair belted wrap coats lend the collection some timeless glamour and Dougal borrows elements of detailed craftsmanship from his couture work, carefully altering it to achieved a beyond relaxed and fearlessly chic look.

Dougal’s bespoke service offers timeless couture, skills and attention to detail but always with an exciting, modern twist. Made for the individual; the couture line focuses on fit, fabric and finish to create effortlessly beautiful pieces.

The goal is to equip clients with a crafted, flattering and perfectly tailored collection of classic yet contemporary pieces. The aim is a wardrobe that reflects the client’s personality and ensures everyday confidence or special occasion perfection.

At an initial meeting, measurements are taken, requirements given and inspirations and fabrics discussed so that bespoke pieces can be created to exact specifications. Every lifestyle aspect and sartorial requirement is discussed and multiple fittings, including toile fitting, are taken in order to create the perfect piece. The experience is completely personalised.

With no part of the process overlooked, from sourcing the right bead to dyeing a fabric to the perfect shade, the attention to detail leaves nothing to be desired.
